An Update on Codegen

By Codegen Technical Staff · Updated April 8, 2026

Over the past year, a lot has changed for Codegen — and most of it is worth being direct about.

In late 2025, Codegen was acquired by ClickUp. The standalone Codegen service was discontinued on January 9, 2026. If you were using Codegen as a separate product, that version is no longer available.

What happened to the technology is a different story. Everything Codegen built — the agent orchestration infrastructure, the ClickUp task context integration, the sandboxed execution environments, the PR Review Agent, the SOC 2 compliance layer — is now part of the ClickUp platform. It did not get shelved. It became the foundation for ClickUp’s AI coding agent infrastructure, available to ClickUp customers under the Codegen name.

If you were on the standalone Codegen product, you need a ClickUp account to access the current version. If you are evaluating Codegen as a new tool, you are evaluating it as part of the ClickUp platform. The AI tools directory on this blog covers how it compares to Cursor, Claude Code, Devin, and other tools in the autonomous agent category.

This blog continues as a resource on AI coding tools, developer workflows, and what it actually looks like to deploy AI agents in production engineering organizations.

We know product sunsetting is never easy, and we want to make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone who has relied on Codegen.

Where Codegen is headed

This isn’t the end of what we built – it’s a new home for it. Codegen’s capabilities are being integrated directly into ClickUp, which we believe is uniquely positioned to bring AI to where work actually happens: across tasks, docs, chat, and more. We’re excited about what that unlocks, and we hope you’ll follow along.

What you should do before April 30th
